Is google changing the way we think?

I believe in some ways it is. If someone has something they want answered, instead of having to actually do a lot of searching to find the answer, they can just google it, and it only takes a few minutes. I know when i want to know something, that is basically the first thing I do. Technology has made a big difference with making things easier to find and receive information.

I can relate to Bowman when he says "my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages". If it takes to long to find the information, I know that I'll move on and find something quick and simple to read that will give me the answer. I believe that the internet has impacted my life in a good way though, because I've learned more than I believe I would have if it were not available to me.

podcast

When i first looked at this assignment, I had no idea what a podcast was, and I had never used iTunes. I was unsure about them, and iTunes. The first podcast I listened to was The smart boards one. I have to agree with what Staci said in class, it's horrible. The guys start off talking about pointless stuff that didn't really make much sense at all and they did sound like a radio talk show. It's not something that was interesting to listen to and did not seem to be educational at all.

Kidcast: With this one, only one guy is speaking. He does seem to stay on track more than they did with the smart boards one, but it still is boring to listen to. He basically drags on what he is trying to say. He does do a better job in getting his point across and being more educational, but he good have done it in a more interesting less boring way.

This week in photography: This one really starts off sounding like a radio talk so also. Starting to listen to it, it did not seem educational at all. The speakers start off laughing, making jokes, and not talking about things that does not matter. They do go one to talk about a strap for the camera, but then they go into talking about biking and horseback riding. They should stay more on topic, but they do talk about things on subject too. Once again however, it was not very interesting to listen to.

Edtechtalk 45: This one was more interesting to listen to and helpful in my opinion, for me. They talk about how to grow as a professional, and ways to help you become the person that you are in the class one. They go into getting people to expand and showing what people actually do in the classroom. I am sure this appeals more to me, because it deals with the classroom, which is something I am more interested in; however they too also could stay on subject more!

Vikki Davis

I love how she say every child can learn, and how she accommodates her students. She customizes her curriculum based on her students. I think this is important. Teachers need to do this to make sure that every student is learning, and understanding the curriculum. She also uses different methods with technology to teach instead of just paper and pen. This is good I believe because once again students learn in different ways.

Another thing i agree with is her using technology in the classroom. This is important because of the growth in technology. She's teaching the students what they need to know and how to use things they are going to be using with technology.I think she has a great teaching method and that more teachers should do this.

Ken Robinson

He was interesting to listen to. He approached the subject of creativity and put creativity in his speech with comedy. I agree with him that it is important to let and encourage students to have creativity. He says that in the educational systems subjects such as math is taken more seriously than dance. I agree with him that this should not be the case. Students should not be shown that one subject is "better" than another, especially if they have a higher interest in the subject not taken as seriously.

He talks of highly brilliant and smart individuals thinking they are not, because their subject was not taking seriously. He also talks about people needing to rethink their view of intelligence. I believe this is true. Everyone is not interested in the same things. One person can be knowledge in somethings and not know anything about another. This does not mean the person is not intelligent. I think teachers should think about this when it comes to there students, and help lead them in there interests, even if it is a subject that is viewed as less important. It is important to help the students in what interest them and to help them be successful in what interest them, instead of guiding them away from it.

Mr. Winkle Wakes

It's odd to actually sit and think of how much things have changed in 100 years. Some changes that have been made are amazing and wonderful things that are great advantages. Things such as the the hospital advances mentioned in the video are great advantages. However, I believe the purpose of this video was to mention how school have not had the advances over the years that should have already taken place.

This video makes you think about the school systems and how much it is missing. If there have been so many advances in other aspects why are there such few advances when it comes to education. I believe it is important for education to exceed and move forward as well. It would be nice to see educational issues be taken up more and to see the schooling system make changes and advances like everything else.

Did you know 3.0

Wow. This was very interesting. I knew technology had a huge effect. I also new it had more of an effect now than before, but i had no idea that it has came that far. Also the fact that it is changing so fast, it is interesting but kind of scary at the same time. The video said that for students starting a four year technical degree half of what they learn their first year will be out dated by their third year of study. I can see where that could have it's advantages technology wise, but for the person that doesn't seem to be a good thing. It would seem like the student would be wasting their time learning with that being the case.

Something else that is interesting that was stated was the expectations of future computers. It said that by 2013, a supercomputer will be built that exceeds the computational capabilities of the human brain and by 2049, a 1,000 dollar computer will exceed the computational capabilities of the entire human species. To me, that's kind of scary to think that technology will go that far. I'm not so sure it will be a good thing to see a computer exceed a human.

A little about me

Hi everyone. My name is Brittany and I'm twenty years old. This is my third semester at USA and this is my second education class. I plan on teaching high school math classes. When I'm not at school, I'm sometimes at work. I work at Buffalo Wild Wings here in mobile. It's fun most of the time. One reason I enjoy it is because I'm a football fan, and I won't miss any games while I'm at work. So if I'm not at work or I'm not at school, I'm most likely spending time with my family, or friends. I don't have any kids, but I adore them. Wanting to teach high school was a tough decision for me because I know I'd also enjoy teaching younger kids. I also enjoy being around the water and like to travel. Well that's a little about me. I'm looking forward to the class and getting to know everyone!
